REAL WEDDING Touch of Blue

Kate & William6 September 2008 They Met Kate and William first met through her ex boyfriend at a gun club way back in 1996. After not seeing each other again for eight years, they met up once more through mutual friends and immediately hit it off! William proposed on his birthday (Boxing Day) whilst they were on holiday in Brazil. Kate had handily arranged a candlelit beach dinner, providing the perfect romantic location!Wedding Venue After looking at a few venues, the couple decided that William’s family and childhood home was the place for them. The Elms is not only stunning but has beautiful gardens and woodland and was also personal for them both! The Theme The wedding theme revolved around the bold blue flowers that they chose, with a colour scheme of vibrant blue and white. They kept the affair traditional and classic with a sparkle lit ceiling in the marquee for added wow-factor and lots of candles creating a romantic glow, as well as a huge dance floor with a disco ball. The tables were decorated with blue glasses and plates, keeping to the theme, as well as the napkins decorated with rosemary for men and lavender for ladies. The tables were appropriately named after herbs with the top table of ‘Lovage’, after Kate’s love of herbs. What They Wore The bride wore a strapless, A-line Ian Stuart dress with a beaded bodice leading into an asymmetrical and tiered skirt, with French lace detailing and a hand-made flower corsage on the hip. She also wore a full length veil, dotted with beads and sparkles, as well as simple pearl jewellery and white roses in her hair, along with some gold shoes. The groom wore a grey morning suit with a white shirt and patterned ivory waistcoat, coupled with a blue floral tie by Kenzo and a silk blue handkerchief, finished with black patent shoes. He hired his suit from John Fields Formal Wedding Hire and wore a buttonhole of a white Avalanche rose with some sprigs.Kate had her sister as her only bridesmaid, who wore a blue, brushed silk dress with a long slitted skirt and a corseted blue top with ties at the back, bought from Love. The Cake The couple chose a three-tiered traditional fruitcake with dotted lace-effect icing, finished with fresh blue hydrangeas and a matching solid silver cake stand. The Flowers Kate carried a round bouquet of white roses with a ring of blue hydrangeas, tied with the French lace from her dress. Her bridesmaid carried a similar version with sprigs of rosemary added too. The top table was decorated with a large candelabra, decorated with the bold blue hydrangeas and white Avalanche roses and white lilies, tying in with the theme.First Dance The happy couple danced to ‘Angels’ by Robbie Williams, which was played by their band Belissima, who provided the music for the rest of the evening.A Moment To Remember Kate loved arriving at the church and seeing William as well as making the all-important vows. They also really enjoyed seeing all their guests so happy and their journey in the Morris Oxford from the church to the reception - it was very special and memorable!Honeymoon The newlyweds headed over to Thailand for their romantic honeymoon with two weeks at the Four Seasons Resort in Koh Samui, followed by four nights at the Peninsula Hotel in Bangkok, overlooking the river. They spent the time with relaxing spa treatments and lots of Thai food and sightseeing!Any Advice? Kate advises: ‘Go with your gut feeling with your wedding dress and don’t try on too many! Take someone honest with you so you don’t end up looking like a fairy.’ Whilst William recommends to ‘Have a good lunch as you may not be hungry when it comes to making the speech!’ Kate & William’s Contact Book:Venue: The ElmsCaterer: Chimneys, Long Melford Wedding Planner: Invisage Dress: La Crème, Norwich Groomswear: John Field Formal Wedding Hire 01603 766 300Cake: Eventiss Flowers: Oops! a Daisy Photographer: Keiron Tovell Photography

PLANNING 5 Planning Tips

Peregrine Armstrong-Jones, the mastermind behind the wedding of David and Victoria Beckham, the civil ceremony of Sir Elton John and David Furnish as well as Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly’s royal nuptials shares five top wedding trends this season.1. For wedding gowns, classic white, cream or ivory are still the main trend as they don't date in photographs. For signature colours, which run all the way through from bridesmaid dresses to decorations, rich burgundy is big this year, as is lilac. 2. Go for something different and contemporary with your flowers - get plenty of movement and colour. Fuchsia vanda orchids are very popular this year mixed with vivid oranges. The London based florist In Water has some great new ideas. 3. It is a lovely touch to place gifts on the tables at weddings and personalised wedding favours are particularly big. My favourite gift company is Etoile de Mer Occasions who are amazingly creative and focus on gifts which capture the personality of the bride and groom. Examples include personalised silver ornaments and jars of honey or sweets. 4. Try a wedding list with a difference and ask your guests to make a donation to Breakthrough Breast Cancer as an alternative to traditional wedding presents. It's a really special way of showing your support and the money you raise will help fund life-saving research, campaigning and education work. Once you have set up a list you'll receive a bespoke donation card which can be sent to guests with the wedding invite. 5. For the reception, instead of having a traditional marquee, why not try a tent with a more contemporary structure. Tents are really on-trend, there are a lot of quirky varieties such as tepees or Bedouin style and if you choose an open variety guests can also enjoy the beautiful views and setting of your wedding. I would recommend the tent company Liquid Canvas. Click to read more planning ideas...Grand FinaleAll Planned Out

CELEBRITY SNIPPET Chelsea Wedding

A new footballer's wife has just joined the newly marrieds rank. Hello! shares some of the details with WP. This weekend saw the celebrity wedding of the year as England and Chelsea football star, Joe Cole married 25-year-old fitness trainer, Carly Zucker. The ceremony took place at super-trendy Royal Hospital Chelsea and was attended by fellow footballers John Terry, Michael Carrick and Wayne Bridge.“I play for Chelsea, we live in Chelsea – so it made sense to get married here,” explained 27-year-old Joe. “It’s the bride’s day. As long as Carly is happy, then I am happy too. Marriage is important, children and family they are the main things in life. All I am interested in is being a good husband, a good son, a good friend and a good father one day.” Talking of his wife, who arrived 20 minutes late to the ceremony in a figure-hugging, floor-length dress by Oscar de la Renta, Joe said “I have always said Carly is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen, but even I was surprised by how unbelievably stunning she looked. She was more beautiful than I have ever seen her.” Joe also told hello! he was concerned that his emotions would get the better of him on the big day. Speaking before the wedding he admitted “I am quite an emotional fella. But I hope I don’t cry because all my mates will think I am soppy.” In fact the couple were in fits of giggles during the ceremony “I am not a very serious person and it all felt a bit out of character” admitted Carly. On his look for the day, Joe talks of keeping his hair long at the request of Carly “I like it really short myself, so after the wedding I will be having my head shaved.” Joe also describes the true meaning behind his wedding ring “I don’t generally wear jewellery so I wanted a ring that would mean something, so I have had my Nan’s plain gold wedding band altered to fit my finger. My Nan Pat died about four years ago of cancer. I was incredibly close to her and she lived with us after my granddad died. She loved football and was a great motivation to me – as was all my family. She saw me play for England but I wish she had been around for the last five years when I have been at the top of my game. It will mean a lot to have her wedding ring on my finger when I am getting married. Carly is having a similar ring and a band of diamonds which goes with her engagement ring, which I chose: a four-carat emerald-cut diamond.”“Whenever I looked at Joe he was gazing adoringly at me,” Carly told hello! exclusively later. “I love being married. It feels more ‘forever’. There is a special connection and bond.” Both Joe and Carly revealed that their lasting memory of the wedding will be catching that first glimpse of each other at the chapel. “It was when I walked up the aisle and saw my husband-to-be,” said Carly. “It felt like Joe and I were the only two people in the chapel.”The post-wedding celebrations took place at the Royal Hospital Chelsea and The Hempel hotel, both in West London. Joe made a heart-warming tribute to his wife, and continued to tell the guests about his first date with Carly, where he was unsure of whether to open the car door for her on arrival at a restaurant. Consequently, he got his limbs in a tangled mess with the seatbelt and fell on the floor. “I thought she would have laughed, but Carly, being the girl she is, came straight round and helped me up. And I knew from then that I would love her. I’m so proud to have her as my wife.” Carly’s father, Nigel also made a speech and joked that Joe had proved his love for his daughter by teaching her how to drive. “Carly repaid the favour by crashing his Range Rover,” said Nigel, who then had his family cringing by revealing Carly hadn’t been the most beautiful of babies. “The staff at Whipps Cross Hospital still call it Ugly Friday,” he deadpanned. At about 1.30am the wedding party moved onto The Hempel hotel for more cocktails and karaoke, where Joe performed a tribute to Oasis crooner, Liam Gallagher in his slippers. Joe’s memory of his performance is crystal clear “I told Carly we shouldn’t drink too much so that we take it all in and don’t miss a moment,” he explained. “I wanted to savour every last moment of our day.” And the couple couldn’t recommend going on honeymoon before the wedding more. ““St Barts was amazing. We’re even thinking of buying a place over there.” To read the full interview, get hold of Hello!
